Samsung Everland 30th Anniversary, the Beginning of Korean Topiary
On April 26, 2006, in the midst of the festival celebrating the 30th anniversary of Samsung Everland , a monumental installation work was created that opened a new era in domestic topiary design.
Since its world debut at the Chelsea Flower Show (2004), this project, which marks the first time that Korean-style topiary has been applied to a large-scale space in Korea, has been completed as a sculptural art piece that encompasses commemoration, symbolism, and liveliness .
In particular, the vivid topiary sculptures depicting Everland's representative characters and the large cake-shaped plant sculpture symbolizing the 30th anniversary attracted great attention from visitors at the time, setting a new standard for amusement park landscape design.
This work was not just a visual decoration, but was the starting point of an experiential planter and the first attempt to realize the design philosophy of creating a ‘memorable space’ , and today it continues to serve as a precedent for numerous festivals, theme parks, and public sculpture installations.
Samsung Everland's 30th Anniversary Topiary was a symbolic milestone that elevated topiary into a cultural content .
