Seongnam City Sports Complex, first installation of Moss Wall Art to create green resting space
– Introducing nature-based design into sports facilities, enhancing the value of local community spaces
In early June 2025, Moss Wall Art will be installed on the main route of the main building of Seongnam City Sports Complex, transforming the public sports space into a more comfortable and eco-friendly space. This installation is the starting point of Seongnam Urban Development Corporation’s eco-friendly design series, and has become an important starting point leading to the second installation of Hwangsaeul National Sports Center.
The project was designed to provide visual comfort and psychological relaxation to users before and after exercise by applying natural moss panels to the wide corridors and lobby walls. The moss used is an eco-friendly, high-quality material that is both durable and vital, and has been processed to be applied stably in indoor environments.
An official from Seongnam Urban Development Corporation said, “The installation of a sports complex is the first attempt to simultaneously consider the public nature of sports facilities and the welfare of users,” adding, “This will be followed by the installation of the Hwangsaeul National Sports Center, a second project, and is spreading the value of nature and art to public spaces throughout Seongnam City.”
This case study suggests a new direction for interior design through the combination of exercise space and natural art, and shows the possibility of expanding application to public facilities in other regions in the future.
