Chemical Safety Center, Drawing Harmony between Safety and Nature with Moss Wall Art
– An eco-friendly art installation that adds a touch of life to a highly refined space
On December 30, 2021, the Korea Chemical Safety Institute in Osong, Chungcheongbuk-do, completed the installation of moss wall art that is ecologically sensitive and balanced, befitting the characteristics of the institution that require advanced technology and precision. This work was installed in the main hallway of the building, and left a deep impression with the combination of restrained design that takes into account the identity of the institution and meticulous planting techniques.
The National Institute of Chemical Safety is an organization that oversees the management of hazardous chemicals and accident response in Korea. It was an unusual case to introduce natural material art in a space where sterility and safety are considered as the top priority. Accordingly, Moss Wall Art used high-performance purified moss and carried out the project through strict preliminary review throughout the entire process of processing and installation.
The installed moss wall art stably places vibrant green tones within a straight and simple pattern, thereby infusing soft warmth into the space without disturbing the tranquility of the indoor environment. In particular, it functions as a visual device that simultaneously conveys trust and sophistication to outside visitors to the institution.
A representative of Moswall Art said, “It was a challenge to bring nature into a space where safety and cleanliness are absolutely required, but that is where the role of art shines,” adding, “This project is a symbolic case that shows that a balance between science and nature, technology and art is possible.”
